But do we ever think how do we recognize our home, our blanket, our clothes, every single item connected to us? Visual memory is that kind of memory where we store visual representations of things. In the STM(Short Term Memory) we use acquisition representation and in the LTM(Long Term Memory), we use semantic representations.

Visual representations help us in remembering a lot of things. Visual memory is known from the applications in perceptual skills. Visual memory is a kind of memory which covers the experience of visual senses.

Visual Imaginary or Visual perceptual skills is a kind of mental representations. It helps in building improves memory strategies. Visual representation is basically the copy of the physical representation. There are four to five kinds of mental representation. Visual memory is the information which passes through the brain as though something is being perceived when nothing is actually happening. Someone may experience sight, smell, sound touch, as a result of visual imaginary when none of these stimuli are present. Visual imaginary involves the use of mnemonics.

While you can only experience sound, height, touch, smell or visual memory when none of the stimuli is present. You could have different varieties of imaginaries also.

  • You could have an imaginary of smell when you imagine good food or the pizza. Water in your mouth is the proof of the arousal of a cell in your body through the visual imagination. This is termed as smell imaginary.
  • When you imagining dog barking in the warehouse. It is termed as auditory imagining.
  • Haptic Imagination occurs when somebody touches your body and you start to imagine it.
