Information Processing Theory: There is three information processing theory in the field of cognitive psychology. Information Processing Approach – The understanding of memory is the main concern of cognitive psychology. The psychology of cognition learns about the information processing theory and information processing approach.

The information processing approach act in the way in which any piece of information comes out or which people encounter from the environment or external stimuli.

The information processing theory is given below:

  1. Myriad Information Processing Theory

The instructor is mainly focused on the information process in the study of cognition. The information processing helps us in defining how the mind process and also stores information. They also design the module to study the method of a higher level of learning and achievement.

We are taking about Myriad information processing theory and cognitive development. Understanding the theory of Myriad is contradictory and overwhelming as well.

In order to help students reach higher-level thinking and learning skills, an educator must draw these theories. According to the Myriad, information is processed in such a way that it can be retained in the long term memory. There is an elaboration between the learned memory and the existing memory.

Myriad also tells that “The more deeply the information is processed and more connection that can be made between new information and existing memory structures, the information will be retained in the long term memory.

Therefore in order to make new material meaningful. instruction must be presented in such a way that students can easily access and connect previous learning and experiences with the new material.

2. Bloom Taxonomy of Cognitive Domain

Information Processing Theory, information processing approach, Meta-Components

Blooms defined the information processing theory in a unique way. He told that information processing approach can be classified in six levels which is basically called as levels of information processing. The levels of processing theory compromises of six level. These levels required a higher level of elaboration.

Levels of Information Processing

  1. Knowing
  2. Comprehension
  3. Application
  4. Analysis
  5. Synthesis
  6. Evaluation

3. Sternberg Information Processing Approach

Sternberg is the renowned name in the field of cognitive psychology. Sternberg is well managing to define the information processing approach. Sternberg theory suggests that development is continous and skill-based rather than staged and discontinuous.

Sternberg theory focused on the three kinds of information processing components; meta-components, performance components, and knowledge-acquisition components.

The three components like meta-components, performance components, and knowledge-acquisition work together to facilitate learning and cognitive development.

Meta-Components

Meta-components are executives in nature. They guide the planning and decision making in reference to problem-solving situations. They serve to identify the problem and connect it with experience from the past. Metacomponents will simply direct what actions will follow.

Performance Components

Performance components are the actions taken in the completion of a problem-solving task. Performance components go beyond the meta-components in that they perform the function also of weighing the merit and or consequences of actions in comparison to other options rather than simply identify options.

Knowledge-acquisition Components

Knowledge-acquisition component is the third component in the Sternberg approach of information processing. It decides the ability to learn new information in order to solve a potential problem.

The Last Thing

What is the information processing approach?

Information Processing Approach – The understanding of memory is the main concern of cognitive psychology. The psychology of cognition learns about the information processing theory and information processing approach.

The information processing approach act in the way in which any piece of information comes out or which people encounter from the environment or external stimuli.
